EPN government invested 28.95 million pesos for aquaculture projects in Puebla

To promote and develop aquaculture and fisheries projects as one of the most important choices in the strategy of the National Crusade Against Hunger, led by President Enrique Peña Nieto, in Puebla, the Secretariat of Agriculture, Livestock, Rural Development, Fisheries and Food (SAGARPA) invested 28.95 million pesos.
Under the Regional Meeting for the Exchange of Innovations and Technologies Applied in the Fisheries and Aquaculture Sector 2015, which takes place in this city, the delegate of SAGARPA, Alberto Jimenez Merino, said the state has the conditions and ability to become a major aquaculture producers among the states without landlocked country.
He stressed that investment in Puebla in this field is 23 million 825 thousand pesos in concurrence with the state, of which the Government of the Republic contributes 80 per cent, ie, more than 19 million pesos to support 393 aquaculture projects and fisheries.
Merino Jimenez stressed that for rural aquaculture, in direct execution, SAGARPA allocated 3 million 125 thousand pesos in support of more than 90 production projects. Also he said, «not only support projects, for the interest of the President of the Republic, Enrique Peña Nietos, and the Secretary, Enrique Martínez y Martínez, is that training is provided to bring them up.
«That’s why, to provide technical assistance and training, SAGARPA in Puebla spent 2 million dollars and hired 20 technical specialists in the field, who are responsible for giving producers the necessary advice for the proper performance of their projects. »
The official of the Republic stressed that the state is also very important fish farming in arid areas, and this is achieved through aquaculture projects promoted by the National Commission of Arid Zones (CONAZA) through water conservation works.
Also, the dual use of water for fish farming and irrigation in agriculture is one of the projects that leverages the water twice, plus it helps reduce fertilizers in agricultural production.
Similarly, Jimenez Merino highlighted the work being done in the Sierra Norte state with the rescue of seven aquatic species in the area, among which are the Acamaya, the eagle, the Chacalín, the «donkey», the different types of crappie, trout and the axolotl.
Note that the Regional Meeting was opened by Pablo Arenas Fuentes, director general of the National Fisheries Institute (INAPESCA) who noted the importance of events like this because «allows us to promote and disseminate scientific progress and its application and submit and generate some alternative production and conservation in the fisheries and aquaculture sector. »
During his tour of the exhibition area, the holder of INAPESCA endorsed the delegate of SAGARPA in Puebla, Alberto Jimenez Merino, their support in the development of aquaculture and fisheries in the state.
