The Trojan War has always been told the same tone, but now comes a Mexican version that gives voice to the «observers and witnesses» of these battles Homerids, staging playwright Ximena Escalante.
The work that Thursday night February 5 premiered in Room Hector Mendoza, action poses on a beach on the ruins of war, and Discord (Luisa Huertas) who incites the judgment of Paris to Aphrodite, Athena and Hera, where the beauty overcomes the intelligence and power, the time it takes to ruin warriors, leaving only women who are «hungry dessert Trojan».
The viewer will see on stage and through the Homeric hymn of these females threads revenge Beach and waste, and Penelope’s faithfulness, in addition to finding the origin of ancient fables as «burning Troy», «is the apple discord «or» Achilles heel «.
With this staging the National Theatre Company at the National Institute of Fine Arts and the National Council for Culture and Arts, began the year with the national release number 48 in the Seventh Cycle Mexican Theatre, a work that will remain on board until March 22 in Room Hector Mendoza.
Homerids is an adaptation of The Iliad, The Odyssey, The Trojan Women and Troilus and Cressida, works of Homer, Euripides and Shakespeare, which enriched by the Greek world to the Mexican work, which concludes at the end of a war only are corpses and women.
Under the direction of Carlos Corona, 13 women and one man represent male characters of this war, among them Hector, Paris, Agamemnon, Odysseus, Diomedes, Troilus, Achilles, Patroclus, Thersites; and Helen, Cressida, Cassandra, Andromache, Calypso, Penelope, mainly.
The versatility of the actresses in the CNT can see the change in character as a helmet stand or take a sword, and immediately become Paris, Cassandra, Andromache and Hector.
In turn, Ximena Escalante said «I like playing with the conventions and this is almost a hallmark of my theater. You can put on a tiny boat, so that everyone is on board and we move to create the tide. The title of the work comes from the name given to the bards, who were poets, singers and reciters of verses, and those descendants of Homer is said and recited his work. For these characters, the director and playwright awarded Homerids female connotation.
In Homerids Marta Aura, Luisa Huertas, Rocio Leal, Patricia Madrid, Rosenda Monteros, Azalia Ortiz, Laura Padilla, Pilar Padilla, Pérez Yulleni Vertti, Astrid Romo and Violet Sarmiento involved, and has the direction of Carlos Corona; in scenery is Sergio Villegas and Victor Zapatero lighting.
