Cholula, Puebla.- Quintos Alejandra Lima, tenth semester student of the Bachelor of Actuarial Science at the University of the Americas Puebla, won 2nd Place in the Third Meeting of Young Researchers, organized by the Council of science and Technology of the State of Puebla (Concytep), with a thesis entitled «Modeling fractal poverty indicators in the case of Puebla».
In an interview, Alejandra Quintos explained that the tender submitted his thesis project which is a new way of measuring poverty. «With this work we want to detect whether poverty has a fractal behavior, ie analyze whether the patterns that are nationwide poverty are repeated, first regionally, then state and finally in the municipalities».
He also said that for the contest the project landed at the state level but in reality it is intended that the research has an impact on Mexico. «We want to make the project nationally and then characterize it by region».
He announced that his thesis is currently at the stage of data collection; «For this we are using the Sen measure, which is an indicator composed of three main characteristics of poverty. We are also collecting databases of different measures that exist on poverty to know information such as: What is the level of poverty, how many there are and how income is distributed among people in poverty, «said the student UDLAP.
Finally, about the competition, Alejandra Quintos said that this was a state level at which students of Puebla universities. He also explained that was divided into categories. «I participated in the category of physical and mathematical sciences and earth; and what was taken into account when qualifying was the visual presentation of the project, creativity, mastery of the subject sample and feasibility of implementation. For my thesis project there is no other that join the three poverty measures described above, which is what gives originality to my project. «
